GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS

Threaded Fittings

Class 150 *

Stainless Steel; Monel (UNS N04400); Nickel (UNS N02200); Alloy 20 (UNS N08020) Used for standard pressure service (150 psi at 350 degrees F and 300 psi at -20 to 150 degrees F). Stainless steel castings conform to the following standards:

ASTM A-351 Defines heat treatment and chemical / physical characteristics
ANSI B16.3 Defines general dimensions, wall thickness, alignment and manufacturer identification markings
ANSI Bl.20.1 Defines proper thread dimensions.

Class 2000, 3000 & 6000

Stainless Steel; Monel (UNS N04400; Alloy 20 (UNS N08020) manufactured for use in severe temperature and pressure conditions.

Only materials meeting ASTM and ASME standards are used in the manufacture of these fittings. Stainless steel fittings conform to the following standards:

ASTM A-182 Defines chemicallphysical properties and heat treatment requirements
ANSI B16.11 Defines wall thickness, alignment dimensions and identification markings
ANSI B 1.20.1 Defines proper pipe thread dimensions

Socket Weld Fittings

Class 150 *

Stainless Steel; Monel (UNS N04400); Nickel (UNS N02200); Alloy 20 (UNS N08020) Used for standard pressure service (150 psi at 350 degrees F and 300 psi at -20 to 150 degrees F). Stainless steel fittings conform to the following standards:

ASTM A-351 Defines heat treatment and chemical / physical characteristics
ANSI B16.3 Defines general and alignment dimensions and identification markings

NOTE: Cost effective alternative to buttweld fittings; suitable for use with schedule 5, 10, & 40 pipe. Stainless 304 & 316 fittings machine faced and precision bored for easier and cleaner welding. Can be assembled and welded in position. Designed to minimize fugitive emissions and meet the quality standards adopted for all class of stainless steel indicated above.

* Conforms to the proposed MSS standard practice for Class 150 and 1000 fittings.

Welding Specifications for Class 150 Stainless Steel SW Fittings

Recommended general welding specifications for Class 150 socket weld manufactured from ASTM A-351 Grades CF8 & CF8M. General principles and procedures applicable for wrought stainless steels are also applicable for cast stainless steels. CF8 (cast equivalent of AISI 304) and CF8M (cast equivalent of AISI 316) are readily weldable.

NOTE: Standard applies to 1/2" -2" N.P.S. socket weld 90° & 45° elbows, tees and crosses. In general, cast stainless steels can be welded with filler metals recommended for equivalent composition wrought stainless steels. See table below for suggested filler materials for ASTM A-351 grades CF8 & CF8M.

Grade of ASTM A-351 Similar to Wrought Alloy Type Suggested Filler Metal
CF8 304 308
CF8M 316 316, 317

CAUTIONS:

  • Control interpass temperatures to 300 degrees F (150 deg C)
  • To prevent loss of corrosion resistance do not subject fittings to temperatures above 800 degrees F (425 deg C) (Above taken from Metals Handbook, volume 15. (9th edition): Castings, pp. 535-537, 730.)

Class 3000, 6000 & 9000

Stainless Steel; Monel (UNS N04400); Alloy 20 (UNS N08020) Manufactured for use in severe temperature and pressure applications. Only materials meeting ASTM and ASME standards are used in the manufacture of these fittings. Stainless steel fittings conform to the following standards:

ASTM A-182 Defines chemical / physical properties and heat treatment requirements
ANSI B16.11 Defines wall thickness, alignment dimensions and identification markings
